Coming to the interior, the Camry finally looks like it belongs to the 21st century, having done away with the look and feel of an old-school sedan. The cabin boasts of a beige colour scheme complemented by wood inserts in the dashboard, centre console, and steering wheel. Rear seat gets power recline, front passenger seat features fold-down headrest and three-height adjustable rear headrests are fitted for the convenience of the passengers.
The seats are ultra-luxurious, crafted with plush leather trim and finely detailed contrast stitching. Leather pack includes a four-spoke, silver and wood finished leather wrapped steering wheel and leather and wood finished gear knob. An integrated 2 DIN touch-screen DVD display audio with AM/FM, CD, MP3, USB, Aux-in, Bluetooth, and car infotainment system is available in the cabin. Both driver and passenger seats come with 8-way Power Adjust, besides ergonomic Lumbar Support and Memory for the driver’s seat.
You can also switch to a more agile and responsive driving experience the steering-mounted transmission controls, thanks to the sequential shiftmatic with paddle shifters. You can also expect an 8” multimedia touch-screen with intuitive pinch-and-zoom navigation that is GPS5 Link5 compatible.
The driver’s seat comes with lumbar support and 8-way electrical adjustment function. Engine specifications- The new TNGA architecture incorporated by Toyota in the 2018 facelift improves driving experience to a considerable extent. The traditional family sedan has come up with much more punch and power has bumped up to 200hp and 300hp from 176hp and 248hp in the base and V6 variants respectively.
The 300hp V6 sprints from 0 to 60mph in just under 6 seconds while the naturally aspirated version takes 7.6seconds to achieve the same feat. The four-cylinder on the base trim is the most powerful naturally aspirated offered in the segment. Body roll has reduced significantly thanks to the stiffer suspension set up, and the steering weighs up much more linearly with build up in speed. The V6 is one of the most powerful in the segment, next only to the Ford Fusion’s aided by two turbos. The brakes are stronger and induce more confidence in the driver than the outgoing model did. Overall it is one of the most enthusiastic and plush family sedans.
Safety
When it comes to safety, ventilated disc brakes in the front and solid disc brakes in the rear work in conjunction along with other braking equipments such as anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Additionally, the saloon gets 7 airbags, vehicle stability control, hill start assist control, electronically controlled brake system, speed sensing auto-lock, front 3-point ELR seatbelt with pre-tensioner and force limiter, smart key remind warning, immobilizer alarm, ISOFIX lane change indicator, etc.
Price and rivals
Priced at Rs. 36.95 lakhs, ex-showrom, the Toyota Camry comes at a significantly lower price as compared to its direct rival, the Honda Accord Hybrid, which is priced at Rs. 43.44 lakhs. The Camry competes against a number of petrol-powered sedans including the Skoda Superb, Jaguar XE, and the Audi A4.
