It will be manufactured by Xiaomi and will be sold under the brand name RedMi and with the model name Note 5. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will arrive with Android v7.1.2 (Nougat) out of the box and might receive the Android Oreo update too. There will be MIUI 9 provided on the device for a flawless experience. The device is a dual SIM device and supports GSM SIMs only. Only Nano SIMs are supported on this device. Redmi Note 5 will support 4G, 3G and 2G. The device has fingerprint security option for better security of personal data. The quick charging feature isn’t present on this device. All these features help the users to get the best experience of using a smartphone device and carrying out communication in different ways.
Design and Display
This device has dimensions 158.5 x 75.5 x 8 mm, and it weighs 179 grams which is a bit more compared to other devices in the same budget segment. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be available in four colour variants black, gold, grey and silver. The screen size of this device is 5.99 inches and supports resolution 1080 x 2160 pixels. The pixel density of this model is 403 pixels per inch (PPI). It is an IPS LCD type display which remains glare-free when viewed from any angle. There is a protection provided on the screen, but until now it is not known. The device functions with capacitive touch up to 10 finger points. Screen to body ratio for this device is 77.38%, despite being bulky the device seems quite slim enough.
Performance and Storage
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will perform on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953. It is a processor which contains a Cortex A53 octa-core chipset clocked at 2GHz. This processor has a 64bit architecture which is important for battery efficiency of the device and multi-tasking. Graphics on this model will be handled by Adreno 506 GPU. It is backed by a 4GB RAM for efficient multitasking, and approximately 1.5-2GB of RAM will remain free at any time. The device will arrive with 64GB of internal storage and will support memory card up to 128GB. Regardless of ample memory and expandable memory feature there will also be USB OTG feature available. Expandable memory and RAM can help the user to enjoy the use of the device. The huge memory with the help of the memory card can help the user to store a lot of data including the images, videos, songs and other data files that can help the user enjoy the device to the fullest extent.
Camera and Battery
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will sport two cameras, one each on either side. The rear camera is a 12MP shooter provided with CMOS sensor to capture well-lighted images. Additionally, the camera also has phase detection autofocus which makes it easier for autofocusing and face detection. There is a dual LED flash provided along with a rear camera to capture bright images in low light conditions. Images captured by the rear camera are 4000 x 3000 resolution. A user doesn’t have the facility to manual mode but can definitely adjust ISO from the settings menu. High Dynamic Range (HDR) shooting mode is provided to capture bright images with vivid colours. The front camera is a 5MP shooter, and not much details are available regarding it currently. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is powered by 4000mAh battery which is of Li-ion type. The battery is not user replaceable.
Network and Connectivity
As mentioned earlier this device supports all the three networks available in India LTE, 3G and 2G. Additionally, VoLTE support is provided for rich call quality experience. There is Wi-Fi feature provided to access the internet wirelessly. The approved Wi-Fi standards are 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n clocked at 5GHz. The device also has a Wi-Fi direct feature to cast the mobile phone screen on other huge screen. Mobile hotspot facility helps one share his/her internet connection with other devices. Bluetooth v4.2 is provided for media connectivity purposes. One can charge the device using micro USB v2.0 socket.
There is a 3.5mm headphone jack provided for the rich sound experience. A fingerprint sensor is mounted on the rear side for security purpose. Sensors on this device are light, proximity, gyroscope and accelerometer.
Verdict:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 price in India is supposed to be 13k INR. For such cost-effective price, the device is worth buying. However, as the device falls into the medium price category, there will be a fierce competition that it may have to face. As per the experts in the field, this model will be able to capture a good market share and hence can expect huge success in the market.
