			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So my 9 mile run I had planned for this morning didn&#8217;t go as well as I hoped.  Maverick came along with me and was being such a pain the whole time, stopping at every tree, laying in the sidewalk when he saw another dog he wanted to meet, pooping around mile 2 and making me hold a stinky poop bag for a couple more miles til I could find a trash can, and then just refusing to go any further at mile 4.  Last time he came with me I had no problems and we did the full 7!  So, after 4 miles we headed home.  I was going to go back out, but once I was inside I couldn&#8217;t find the motivation to go back out.</p>

<p>The truth is, I wasn&#8217;t feeling the run from the beginning, my body didn&#8217;t settle in and I couldn&#8217;t find a pace where I was feeling good&#8230;which probably would have happened if I had brought Mav or not.</p>
<p>The good news is&#8230;the shins weren&#8217;t hurting!  So that&#8217;s a plus.  I decided that I&#8217;m not going to let this bad run bring me down (although it did for about 30 minutes) and I&#8217;m just going to go back out tomorrow to try again.  I would like to do the full 9, but at the very least I&#8217;m going to finish the 5 I didn&#8217;t get to today.</p>

<p>Also, I&#8217;m excited for date night with Mike tonight.  We are going to <a href="http://www.centralbluerestaurant.com/#!">Central Blue</a>, a popular martini &amp; tapas restaurant nearby.  I&#8217;ve been wanting to check it out for awhile so I&#8217;m looking forward to it.</p>
<p>I think that for now I&#8217;ll take a nap.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Well I woke up a bit later than I thought I would this morning around 10:30.  I would have liked to have been starting my run earlier but I don&#8217;t mind because if my body needs that sleep then I am more than happy to give it.  Last night&#8217;s sleep total was around 11 hours or so.  It is so not like me to sleep that much on weekends but lately I&#8217;ve been getting 10-11 hours, I guess because I don&#8217;t get as much as I need during the week.</p>
<p>My pre-run fuel was my yummy breakfast.  Banana whipped oatmeal made with almond milk and some Dark Chocolate Dreams PB on top.</p>

<p>In my <a href="http://bessbefit.com/2012/01/26/quick-question/">what do you want</a> post, I got some feedback requesting more playlists, so I will start today by sharing the music I have been listening to recently and what I will be listening to today.</p>

<p>None of these songs are super new but I typically change the songs I listen to while working out every couple of weeks or something.  I definitely am not the type to need different music every workout!  But maybe I should start so I can share more good playlists!!</p>
<p>Now that I&#8217;ve taken my sweet time this morning, it&#8217;s almost noon and I should get goin&#8217;.  Let&#8217;s hope my shins hold up for these 9 miles! 9 is my goal but if my body says I should stop sooner, I will.  We&#8217;ll see!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Someone</em> got a lil creative in the kitchen yesterday!  I will say, my dinner creation last night was the result of inspiration from a couple of recipes that I had seen <a href="http://maryjames.net/Default.aspx">here</a> (recipe not online but I have the cookbook) and <a href="http://bakinandeggs.com/2011/11/09/mozzarella-and-spinach-stuffed-chicken-meatloaf/">here</a>, but I didn&#8217;t really follow either recipe and kind of just combined things and hoped for the best.  The idea for stuffing it definitely came from <a href="http://bakinandeggs.com/">Bakin&#8217; and Eggs</a>.  I think the process for cooking meatloaf is probably pretty universal but here is my take:</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Broccoli Rabe &amp; Parmesan Cheese Stuffed Turkey Meatloaf</strong></span></p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Ingredients:</span></p>
<ul>
<li>1 package lean ground turkey</li>
<li>2 egg whites</li>
<li>1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs</li>
<li>1 cup marinara sauce</li>
<li>Parmesan cheese</li>
<li>Broccoli Rabe (just a few pieces)</li>
<li>Spices to taste: salt, pepper, oregano, minced onion</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Preheat oven to 350°</li>
<li>In a bowl, combine ground turkey, egg whites, and marinara sauce</li>
<li>Spread a layer of meatloaf onto pan</li>
<li>Place broccoli rabe and cheese in the middle</li>
<li>Cover with another layer of meatloaf</li>
<li>Sprinkle more cheese on top if desired</li>
<li>Cook in oven for 40-50 minutes</li>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bars</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Ingredients</span></p>
<ul>
<li>3/4 cup creamy peanut butter</li>
<li>1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons Splenda Brown Sugar Blend</li>
<li>1 tablespoon vanilla extract</li>
<li>1 cup all purpose flour</li>
<li>1 tsp baking soda</li>
<li>1 shake sea salt</li>
<li>1.5 scoops vanilla protein powder</li>
<li>3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (I&#8217;m sure any milk would do)</li>
<li>2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce</li>
<li>3/4 cup dark chocolate chips</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Preheat oven to 350°</li>
<li>Stir peanut butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.</li>
<li>Add in baking soda, salt, flour, and protein powder and combine all.   The mix will be dry.</li>
<li>Stir in almond milk and applesauce to form a dough.</li>
<li>Add dark chocolate chips</li>
<li>Put dough in a lightly greased 8&#215;8 baking pan</li>
<li>Bake for 10-12 minutes</li>
<li>Let cool (or don&#8217;t&#8230;I&#8217;m never very good at that step) and Enjoy!</li>

<p>It&#8217;s actually quite a large salad and I managed to finish half and I&#8217;m saving the rest for maybe lunch tomorrow if it doesn&#8217;t get too soggy!  Soggy lettuce is worse than losing circulation to your toes.</p>

<p>A heaping spoonful of dreamy dark chocolate peanut butter happened immediately and I savored it for as long as possible!</p>
<p>It wasn&#8217;t long until I was hungry for dinner&#8230;probably not even 2 hours later!  I decided to make some homemade pizza with a whole wheat thin crust I had just purchased from the grocery store, marinara sauce, and cheese.  So easy and ready in 15 minutes!</p>

<p>Why is pizza so perfect?</p>
<p>This morning I woke up with a plan on going to the gym to get a run in on the treadmill, but honestly my lower legs have been hurting me again this week like they did back when I was training for my 2nd half-marathon, and I really don&#8217;t want to injure myself so I decided against the running and stayed home to complete the <a href="http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=1333047">Tone It Up</a> 300RepChallenge workout.  The workout is circuit-style and the challenge is to go through the circuit twice and push yourself for time (while still focusing on form.)</p>
<p>I ended up doing the workout 4 times through, meaning I did 1200 reps total!! Woohoo!</p>

<p>Each time my goal was to beat the time before, but the third set really took it out of me since I was really pushing hard, so I wasn&#8217;t able to beat it on the fourth set.  But I was still happy with the times. I was really able to fly through the squat jacks and for the pushups with tummy tucks, I made them more of a mountain climber (which really increased the difficulty) in the way that I was barely touching my toes on the floor before switching sides.  This was so killer on my arms and hip flexors!</p>
<p>I hope to get to the gym after work for Body Pump but I have a meeting this afternoon and I&#8217;m just not sure how long that will go&#8230;so we will see.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last night I was more excited about getting up the post about the <a href="http://bessbefit.com/2012/01/23/rainy-day-workout-a-super-awesome-giveaway/">Chickbands Giveaway</a> than I was to show you my dinner, but its quickly becoming one of my favorite things to eat for my evening meal.  And it&#8217;s super easy to make.  Basically, tear up a lot of kale (last night I did extra A LOT), add some olive oil, sea salt, pepper, and oregano, then toss all together.  Throw in some cherry tomatoes if you have some (which I did.)</p>

<p>It really took me an hour to eat that whole bowl.  Kale is filling!  But there is nothing better than shoving your face into an enormous bowl of vegetables.</p>
<p>I woke up early this morning to get to the gym by 6am.  I hopped on an elliptical, put my headphones in to watch SportsCenter, and got going.  I did 1 hour of inclines between 10-20 and resistances between 8-10.  My legs were feeling kind of tired and sluggish so I didn&#8217;t push it too much on the resistance.</p>

<p>Always nice to get the workout done with!  I think I am going to hit some abs tonight, at least do my plankaday!  Maybe I can beat 3 minutes and 8 seconds this time.</p>

<p>Since the pieces were pretty big, they held me for the rest of the afternoon until I got home, where I promptly made my favorite  pre-workout food.  Honey &amp; PB on an english muffin!</p>

<p>I relaxed on the couch for a bit as my food digested, and I listened to the rain pour outside.  I did not want to go back out in such gross weather, so instead I opted for a tough rainy day at-home circuit workout and some yoga!  Here was my circuit workout:</p>

<p>Let me just tell you, I was drenched in sweat by the end of this&#8230;I mean, dripping down my face.  The stairs and star jumps were especially killer!  That took about 25 minutes to complete, and then I did a 42 minute yoga workout from Fitness OnDemand.  To cap off my workout, I challenged myself with a plank to see how long I could go!</p>

<p>I had noodle arms from my circuit workout and the yoga, so my arms were shaking badly during this but I was happy I was able to hold the plank for a little over 3 minutes before giving up!  Test yourself!!  How long can you hold it?!</p>
